Bristlecone pine (Pinus aristata)

.....Fantastically old twisted trees, full of character, are a favorite subject. The Methuselah Grove has some of the oldest specimens of bristlecone pines growing in the Eastern Sierras at 11,000 feet. Kevin teases me that I love "twisty, freaky trees" because I've spent a lot of effort trying to capture the very contorted acacias in Africa. To me each tree is like an individual person, weathered by its surroundings and witness to things we will never know. This particular tree could be over 4600 years old!
