The Lion Court, the Alhambra, Granada, Spain

.....Painting on location requires a thick skin, especially when you are surrounded by crowds of people, all watching what you are doing. I have learned to tune out, but it was a special challenge here, with thousands of tourists filing by. At first the guards didn’t want me to sit, but I was able to find a spot where I could sit on the ground with my back against the wall. Only once did I get a giggle, when three Japanese ladies saw the sushi mat I use to hold my paintbrushes. They asked if I knew what it was, and when I told them how perfect it was for the job of keeping the bristles protected but allowing them to dry, plus the convenience of being able to roll it up and stash it in my backpack, they thought this was very amusing.
