Fiery-throated Hummingbird (Panterpe insignis)

....This little fellow lives at high elevations in Costa Rica. While Kevin was taking pictures of nesting quetzals, I hung around the feeder. The bird’s favorite perch was below me, and looking down at him, I noticed that the perspective made his long, slender bill all but disappear. I had once found one of these hummingbirds on Volcan Poas that had flown into a plate glass window; it died in my hand while I tried to keep it warm. So it was especially nice to have close contact with a live one.
