Parrotlets (Forpus sclateri)

....These captive dusky-billed parrotlets were in an aviary in Brazil, cuddling together, not for warmth, but for companionship. They are one of several species of small parrots popularly sold in the pet trade as "lovebirds" because of this behavior. It is a moral dilemma for me to see these animals and birds in captivity because I know they would be so much happier in the wild. But their captivity also gives me the only chance for proximity in which to work firsthand and see the kind of detail you need for portraiture that you could never get in the field.
